Principal and Interest Vol.3

As things once again slow down heading into the holidays, I’ve found that some things have been picking up. A few clients looking to be ahead of the game by getting out and seeing what’s on the market now before the spring. We went out and saw some country properties, a change of pace from in town, as typically the variety is much greater from place to place. New builds vs century homes, 2-acre lots vs 50 acres of forest, waterfront vs inland. It’s always interesting to see how people utilize the land they have when its available. Pools and garages are more standard when you have the space but its nice to see owners carve walking trails through the forests or have sports fields for their kids. Looking at a wide variety of properties helps keep things in perspective. Looking at the same property over and over, you might lose the forest for the trees (pun intended).

Interest

This past weekend we set out to Toronto to go the Royal Winter Fair. I’m not sure if it’s because I hadn’t been since I was in elementary school, but it seems to have grown significantly. Finding parking was a bit of a hassle (take the train in if you can), but once inside it was great. Very busy but not overwhelmingly so. We walked around and looked at some of the different vendors before heading over to check in on a friend’s sheep exhibit. We finished off by attending the horse jumping event. With zero expectations heading in, it ended up being a great time. Watching the riders navigate through the tight course was captivating. Having previously worked on a harness racing horse farm in my youth, I am very familiar with horses. However, I spent almost all my time mucking stalls. I didn’t get to see the horses in action. Harness racing and jumping are obviously very different, but still, seeing how powerful horses can be while looking so effortless is fascinating.

For a little Leafs check in, they are looking good! Woll being back hasn’t meant he’s gotten the net permanently from Stolarz, but having options is always good. Tough news about the Pacioretty injury, hopefully he can return soon as he’s already battled through a lot in his career. I’ll be curious to see if they can keep the win streak going against the pesky Sens tonight, who they seemingly often don’t play well against.

Recommendations:

I recently went to a golf sim facility in the south end of Guelph called DBL CRS and was thoroughly impressed. As someone who is more into golf tech than they probably should be, the place exceeded any expectations I had. GC Hawk and Foresight sims, good course selection, and a great layout. The place had a laidback vibe, with everything you’d need and nothing you don’t. The owner, who was working the front desk/bar that night, was also very thoughtful and appreciative of the business. With a big golf trip coming up in May, I’ve found the spot where I’ll try to maintain any golf feels throughout the winter.
