Principal and Interest Vol.8

Hello friends, and welcome to a tradition unlike any other, a P+I post, presented by Henry Wallen…

Had to do it! Shoutout to Jim Nantz on calling what was the craziest round of golf I’ve ever witnessed. Trust me when I say we’ll get to that on the back half of this post, but there is plenty to talk about on the business side of things first.

Principal

The tariff saga continues, and with that so does the uncertainty. Even though some of the retaliatory tariffs set in place have been lifted, others remain. With so much up in the air, what does it mean for the real estate market?

Well, in a weird way, people are getting comfortable being a little uncomfortable. Showings, open house traffic, inquiries… all are picking up. Buyers are starting to get more serious again instead of just looking. All good indicators that we may in fact get the tail end of the spring market we’ve been waiting for. At this point it’s hard to be more than cautiously optimistic with so much politically and economically up in the air, but to see folks getting back to the things they want to do has been encouraging. All of this isn’t to say we are headed for a hot market, more just that things may not be as bleak as they appear to be.

Interest

This round did not in fact feel like any other. Of course, I’m talking about Rory McIlroy’s win on Sunday at the Masters. As some of you may know, I have been a big fan of Rory for my entire golf-watching life, so suffice it to say I was a bit nervous watching him in his final round. I don’t think anyone can blame me however, because he didn’t exactly make it an easy watching experience. Double bogey on one, or the inexplicable wedge dumped into the creek on 13… The nerves were up.

But through all the bumps along the way, some amazing golf was played too. The putt on 3 to take the lead, the hoisted iron on 7, and of the course the sweeping 7-iron on 15, will all stay with me for a long time. Watching Rory make the final putt in the playoff and seeing the immediate relief it brought him was truly one of the more powerful scenes in sport that I can remember. Now the question is, can he get another?

As a note, yes I did pick Rory to win, as proved by my previous post. Not gloating, just making sure people are aware…

Culinary Update:

After another trip to Sugo on Surrey, I can report that they’ve done it again. Another amazing meal, starting with the Crab Arancini, leading into the Pollo pizza and Paccheri pasta split between Meg and I. Could not recommend this place any more, it has a spot firmly in my top 3 restaurants in Guelph. Check them out!

Personal Golf Update:

With winter hanging around a little longer than anticipated, I haven’t been able to get out as much as in years past. With a Scottish golf trip quickly approaching, the heat is on to find a feel before I leave. I was able to get out to Tarandowah Golfer’s Club, a course outside of London that may be the best deal going right now, but when you can’t feel your hands it’s a little harder to play. Temperature at tee off said “feels like -9”, which is just not what you’re looking for.
